Not such a silly use for Artificial Intelligence (AI)

A recent article at Electronic Products discussing decoding of "chicken language" may seem like a silly article but is, in fact, quite an accomplishment and a harbinger of even greater accomplishments on the horizon for technology. You can read the article here.

A team of researchers has used advanced computing to pick out “speech” patterns in what may seem like nonsensical behavior of chickens. The same technology, however, can be used to ease animal stress, warn of illness, and serve as an early warning sign among commercial operators that something may be amiss.

At ASH Industries, we likewise depend on pattern recognition, but not for raising chickens! The stability of the Swiss Lathe and injection molding processes in thermoplastic, silicone (LIM), and metal injection molding (MIM) depend on establishing set and predictable patterns or processes. While variations in molded parts are to be expected, how large those variations are is highly dependent on the quality of the tooling, the capability of the equipment, and the conscientiousness of the operators. The steps to establish a stable process begin with using experience to make an educated prediction of what process will work. Careful measurement and testing of the components will tell a manufacturing team just how far away from the ideal the initial process may be. Further measuring and statistical analysis will quickly indicate if the process is stable or not. AI may be great for chickens, but it still takes an experienced company to meet customer objectives and component completion.
