Universal Navigation

Satellites will use pulsar radiation to travel the heavens. Satellite navigation has presented all manner of unique challenges over the years of human exploration. This new concept of using pulsars, also known as one of the most reliable time pieces in the universe, to self-navigate in the absence of direct earth control may solve a number of problems for scientists.

No matter how this system travels to space, it will need protection from micro particles and debris. ASH Industries has unique injection molding experience with unusual thermoplastic and silicone (LIM) materials. In one recent production component, ASH worked with a product developer to “tune” the part configuration and material type to transmit a maximum amount of energy in a specific frequency range. In addition to specific materials types lending themselves to particular applications, colorants, transitions in wall thicknesses, bonding agents & methods, and even labeling can affect a product’s success in achieving specifications.
